How the Maflex Unwinder LEGO® Project Was Born: The Idea and Inspiration
The inspiration for this project originated from the image featured in the Maflex 2024 calendar , where one of our machines was designed by AI to look like a prototype made with LEGO bricks . Exploring further opportunities, LEGO® encouraged us to design and create our concept using specialized software and publish it on the LEGO Ideas platform.
The Maflex Unwinder LEGO®: From Project to Brick-Built Set!
Currently, the Maflex Unwinder project is represented by a series of 3D renderings, created using the software. “The model uses only original LEGO® parts, as required by the regulations, which is why, for example, chains are used instead of the usual belts for the reel support,” explains Renato Del Monte, Technical Sales Manager at Maflex, who personally developed the 3D model, adapting the original technical drawings.

“We immediately embraced the idea and the opportunity to embark on this unique project! It represents an unconventional way to communicate the values of the Maflex brand,” says Paola Pellegrini, Marketing & Communication Manager. “We’re not aware of any similar initiative in our industry. LEGO® is commonly associated with innovation and fun, offering countless possibilities.” The association with this globally renowned brand, which shares similar values to Maflex, enhances the company’s work and highlights its personality. “This collaboration reflects the spirit of Maflex. We are a relatively young, dynamic, creative, and proactive company, with a strong focus on original ideas, diversification, and research and development,” confirms Luca Mazzotti. “We also had fun during this process and are curious to see where it will take us. We already have plans to create more sets,” adds Renato Del Monte.
The Maflex Unwinder LEGO® Phase 2: Support Our Project on LEGO Ideas
This idea could become a reality!
Once your project is created, you can aim to have it produced and start the adventure of assembling it! In this case, assembling the Maflex Unwinder would be a challenging task, as it’s a set of about 1,150 pieces, building a model that measures 31.5×43.2×23.4 cm and weighs approximately 1 kg.
